We're back, and we moved into a 1988 Mac

Hi, friends! Long time no see. As some of you noticed, we've been on hiatus for four months. Our (new) day jobs kept us busy (we got a little greedy), but don't worry: the shop isn't going anywhere!

During the break, we gave mnlbicycle.club a whole new look, just in time for Halloween. It's inspired by System 6, the software Apple's Macintosh ran from 1988 to 1991. Honestly, I wasn't even born yet back then, and I didn't use a Mac myself until the late 2010s, when I started working in tech. I knew nothing about System 6 until we started researching it for this, and yet it feels strangely familiar, as if I'd lived another life where I used it every day.

We made it as close to the real System 6 as we could, with a bit of creative license wherever it made the site more fun to use. Here's what to try:

  • The startup screen when you first open the site, with the startup chime if your browser lets it play.
The startup screen: a Mac with a bicycle on its screen, in the middle of a grey desktop
The startup screen's welcome box: a bicycle and Welcome to MNL Bicycle Club.
  • The boxes on every window: close on the left, and on the right, the zoom box that makes the window fill the screen.
The Best Sellers window closed into a folder icon on the desktop, between the windows above and below it
The Best Sellers window zoomed to fill the screen
  • The little apps: Alarm Clock, Calculator, Note Pad, Puzzle, and Find File for searching the shop. They're in the bicycle menu at the top, along with Shut Down. On smaller screens, open the menu and tap Extras.
The bicycle menu pulled down beside the Calculator showing 1988, the Note Pad, the Puzzle and the Alarm Clock

Go try them all!

The site is open for orders, and we're not done yet. Next on our list are credit card payments, more pick-up locations, and a few more surprises, all to make buying straight from our web store easier. Our Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok shops are now open too.

We hope you have as much fun using the new site as we had making it!
